Elf Yourself
Hi there bloggers! As you know Christmas is coming up. So at my school we decided to Elf ourselves. First we had to colour it in, so of course I did Christmas colours. After we coloured it in we had to cut it out very carefully. After that we glued everything together. So this is my Elf I hope you like it.

Mystery's Of Top Team
This is my experience of Top Team I hope you enjoy.
Top Team
Today on Monday the 21st of November My School South Hornby School had Top Team. In Top Team there is heaps of activities to do.
The first activity that my group number 7 did was number 4, map hop! Map hop is when you have to have wooden pieces of the North and South island and make your way from one marker, to the other marker. Once you had made your way across you had to make the South Island and make the North Island! I liked this activity because if you didn't already know what New Zealand looks like it shows you it.
Another activity that I loved was involved with water. It was an obstacle. You had to have a coloured wooden stick that had a square platform on top of it. You had to carry a bucket of water on top of the platform. The first obstacle was four foam circles that you had to walk across and they were different heights. The second obstacle was poles in the ground that were zig zaged and you had to go around them. The last obstacle was a wobbly wooden bridge that moved around while you walked on it.
The last activity that I like was Gutterball. You had a golf ball and bits of a gutter. You had to join the gutter bits together to make it roll down and then get into a bucket. This activity was really hard.
That was my mystery’s of Top Team I hope you enjoyed!

Thinglink Christmas In Australia and South Africa
We have been learning about the history of Christmas all around the world.
CLICK ON THE DECORATIONS PLEASE
Christmas in Australia, and South Africa.
This is what I have learnt about Christmas in Australia and South Africa.
In Australia, Christmas comes in the towards the beginning of the summer holidays! Children have their summer holidays from mid December to early February, so some people might even be camping at Christmas.
Because it's so hot at Christmas time in Australia, there are quite often massive bush fires across the country. Many volunteer bush fire fighters are involved in saving people and property and travel from all over Australia to help in other states.
Australians hang wreaths on their front doors and sometimes go out Christmas carol singing on Christmas eve. People also decorate their houses and gardens with Christmas trees and Christmas lights. Neighbors sometimes have little competitions to see who has got the best light display. The neighbors often visit each other to look at the light displays at night. Sometimes the displays are put out as early as December 1st. One street in Sydney raises over $(AUS)35,000 every year for charity with their co-ordinated street display!
That is Christmas in Australia!

Because South Africa is in the Southern Hemisphere, Christmas comes in the summer. So there's lots of sun and beautiful flowers in full bloom.
The schools are closed for the Christmas holidays and some people like to go camping. Going carol singing on Christmas Eve, is very popular in towns and cities. Carols by Candlelight services are also popular on Christmas Eve. And many people go to a Christmas morning Church Service.
Traditional 'fir' Christmas trees are popular and children leave a stocking out for Santa Clause on Christmas Eve.
The Christmas meal is either turkey (or duck), roast beef, mince pies or suckling pig with yellow rice & raisins and vegetables, followed by Christmas Pudding or a traditional South African desert called Malva Pudding (sometimes also called Lekker Pudding) - get the recipe. People also like to pull Christmas Crackers! The meal is often eaten outside in the summer sun! If it's really hot they might even have a barbecue or 'braai'.
That is Christmas in South Africa!
Kiwi Christmas
Did you know that Kiwi Christmas is less about snow and sleigh bells and more about sun, sand and barbecues in the backyard. At Christmas we tell stories about Christmases in the past or what we think it will be like in the future!
Beat you didn't know this fact that In 1642, Abel Tasman's crew celebrated the first Christmas dinner in New Zealand – freshly killed pork from the ship's menagerie washed down with 'extra rations of wine'. In 1769 James Cook's crew marked the occasion by feasting on ‘Goose pie.
What about this The Christmas Day service given by Church Missionary Society representative Samuel Marsden at Oihi Bay in the Bay of Islands in 1814 is often cited as the first in New Zealand, but did a French priest travelling with Jean François Marie de Surville in 1769 beat him to it?
Come late December and thousands of Kiwis get ready for their annual holidays. They look forward to lazy days at the beach, games of backyard cricket, food on the barbie and the holiday uniform of shorts, jandals and T-shirts.
I hope you have enjoyed learning about a Kiwi Christmas!

Persuasive Writing
We have been learning about Persuasive Writing and texts. So we had to try and persuade our principal Mr Moriarty to either Keep the uniform we have, Have no uniform or get a new uniform this is what I have done.
Overall, I think children should have a School uniform because it will show respect, People won’t be judging you, and you don’t have to try look your best. So Mr Moriarty keep the uniform that made memories.
It is time to show true respect to South Hornby School. I think that is time that we show true respect to this School. Three reasons why I think children should have a School uniform are one It shows respect to the school, two people won’t be judging you based on what your wearing , and number three you won’t need to try and look your best.
Firstly, I think children should have a school uniform because it shows respect. A uniform can show respect by showing the logo to show you are proud to be at South Hornby. You can also show respect by displaying your badges and your achievements. Just think you could make yourself feel very proud about yourself.
Secondly, I think children should have a School uniform because people won’t be judging you based on what you are wearing. They can’t do that because if you wear something that they don’t like they can’t judge you because, they are wearing the same thing. Also if you wear something that isn't really you they can’t make fun of it. Imagine it will basically be a bully free zone.
Thirdly, I think children should have a School uniform because you don’t need to try and look your best. You don’t need to try and look your best because you are all the same. You don’t have to look your best to try impress anyone. Think it will be just the normal you.

A Purrfect Friend For Miss McLeod
Did you know that cats can help you get to sleep with the sound of their soothing purr? Just think how that would be a great way to go to sleep! That is why I think Miss McLeod should get a cat Also, they can a find their way back home and they can look after themselves.
Firstly, Miss McLeod should get a cat because they can help you sleep. Some of the things they can do to help you sleep are, they can help you with their soothing purr by helping you relax. They can also keep you warm with their fur by walking on your bed and rubbing their fur on you. It would be like a silky soft blanket on you, just imagine...
Secondly, Miss McLeod should get a cat because they can find their way back home. This is easy because they can just go outside and find their way back home by them self. They can go far away and find the scent of their owner and come back home. Imagine, they will be your cat for life because if they run away when a earthquake is happening, they will still know where to go to find you!
Finally, I think Miss McLeod should get a cat because they can look after themselves. They can look after themselves by being able to bath themselves. Also if you have a cat flap you don’t have to worry about, having to take them to the toilet. Think about not having to bath your cat every 2 days, and having to open and shut your door constantly.
Overall I think Miss McLeod should get a Cat because they can help you get to sleep, Find their way back home, and look after themselves. Don’t wait Miss Mcleod, contact your nearest pet shop and get the Purrfect pal for you.

Triathlete Sam
In Reading we have been learning about prior knowledge. To use prior knowledge you have to say what you already know about something. While we were reading a book called Triathlete Sam we had to think of some question's these are 5 of them. How does sport teach you a lot about life? Why does Sam like being a triathlete? How can you still run when you are 80 years old? Why do you need a number on your arm? How many times did Sam get injured in all of his race's. Sam has been doing race's since 1995.

Paige's And Phoebe's Maths
Question 1
Marama is planning her birthday party.
She is inviting 11 friends so there will be 12 people at the party.
How many 1.5 litre soft drinks will she need if they have one drink each?
Paige’s Idea for question 1
I thought that it would be 4 cups at first but when I looked at the cups I thought it would be 5. Then Mrs Raison measured the cups then it was 180.
Phoebe’s Idea for question 1
I thought that the answer would be 7 in my head so when did a vote. To do the vote we covered our eyes with one hand and waited for Mrs. R to say the number that we had thought of in our head. Then we measured one 1 cup with the 1..5 litre soft drink.. After tha we saw how much it had gone down so we thought in our head a different number up to twelve and Paige and I thought the amount of cups would be 4.

Make Our World A Better Place
We brainstormed about what Be The Change is. We had to choose a topic and I chose littering. This shows be the change by trying to stop litter. In this photo it shows Ella putting the rubbish further down into the bin so that the wind will not blow it away. When you put the rubbish in the bin you will push it down further instead of just leaving it on top of the bin. In this process I learnt how to take different camera angles and different ways to stop the littering.Wednesday, 17 August 2016

Phoebe Spencer Park Writing
Spencer park 29/2/16
Last week on Friday the whole Senior Syndicate went to Spencer Park. On the way to Spencer Park I was sitting next to John. When we got there we had a little Senior Syndicate meeting about being safe. When the meeting was over we had some morning tea. For morning tea I had a bag of chips and some sour patch.
The first thing I did on the playground was go on the flying fox. On the flying fox I was sitting down. They were really hard to get on because they were about the same height as my neck. But in the end I got on. Then I went onto the BIG BLUE SLIDE. Inside the big blue slide it looked like it was glowing. In the slide it kept on turning and it was confusing my stomach and I felt sick so I decided to go to a different thing I went to the Jungle Gym. At the jungle gym I was playing with Trinity. It was shaped like a planet called Saturn. Then me and Trinity decided to go to the sandpit that had water in it. At the water sandpit there was a little digger that you could pick up mud with and throw it. Me and Trinity both got to turn on it. After that we both went to the swings and had a big Turn on it. Then we got called out to go to the beach and make sure that there is no blue bottle jellyfish. When we were at the beach we sat down to get out instructions. Are first instruction was to find a little team and dig the deepest hole. Are team didn't come first but I'm sure we came second because are hole was about the same size as the team that won! Are second and instruction was to build a hero out of sand and whatever we could find on the beach. It was really fun my team Emily, Alisha,Mason and I Built Miss Sea Cloud. In the Activity That we had to build a hero out of sand and whatever we could find on the beach My team one.It was so fun that I want to go there again! After that we went back to the park. At the park we had some lunch and went of to play for a little while. I went on the type ropes for the whole time then we went back to school. The End!
